Compliance with the updated ANSI/ASHRAE/ASHE Standard 170-2021 may prove difficult in existing healthcare facilities. Because of the new focus on “Function of Space,” upgraded air filtration may be required in certain rooms and spaces where no easy way to retrofit your HVAC system exists. Further, installed air filters cleanse the air entering a space, but they cannot remove contaminants shed in an occupied space by people and equipment.

Fortunately, portable air filtration units can be positioned in these spaces to bolster the air quality. However, you can easily get overwhelmed when trying to decide which one to choose for your facilities. AAF Flanders developed this checklist to help you select a unit.

Reliable Performance

Get visibility into the reduction in particulate levels across a range of particle sizes.

Ensure third party certification of the safety of the unit.

Security Settings

Prevent unauthorized or unintentional changes to the operational settings.

Scheduling Flexibility

Select the desired number of air changes per hour.

Set a recurring schedule and/or schedule operation prior to and after use of a space.

Quiet Operation

Avoid unnecessary distractions and disruption for patients and staff by ensuring low noise levels.

The all-new AstroPureTM portable air filtration unit checks all of these boxes. The intuitive interface gives you the visibility into the unit’s performance and features a lock-out mode. The EC motor provides effective, quiet operation, drawing air in the space through a MERV 11 box filter and HEPA filter. Plus, it is ETL listed, so you know that it meets accepted safety standards for the U.S. and Canada.
